The Game to Judge: Don't Call Me a Gangster

Gangster rapper The Game doesn't want to be referred to as a gangster rapper anymore -- but it's not because he's changing professions ... it's because he's trying to win a court case.

The gangster rapper's legal move is part of a lawsuit that was filed against him in 2008 -- in which he's being sued for allegedly punching a guy during a pickup basketball game and then pulling a gun on him.

In the new documents, the gangster rapper is asking the judge to 86 all references to him being a gangster or gangster rapper during the trial ... because he's afraid it would prejudice the jury against him.

In the docs, the gangster rapper also doesn't want any mention of his lyrics during the trial ... because they contain references to violence and profanity.

Rip Torn's Homeland Defense

Rip Torn's burglary case -- which was supposed to go before a judge today but didn't -- may not stick ... ironically, because of alcohol.

Rip Torn's Homeland Defense
Rip was arrested last month after cops found him inside a bank with a loaded gun. But today, Rip's lawyer, Tom Waterfall, told TMZ Rip has what may be an airtight defense -- he thought he was in his Connecticut home (left) and not in a bank (right).

So, you say, the house is green and the bank is yellow. Not when you've been drinking. You say the house appears smaller than the bank. Not when you've been drinking. And, Waterfall says, the bank was once a house.

Short story ... an old man comes home in the dark after a night of drinking, the keys don't unlock the door so he breaks the window, enters, and goes to sleep. When the cops arrive Torn even asks why they came to his home. So good luck to prosecutors who try to prove Rip had an intent to steal.

As for the firearms charges ... that's a toughie. Rip's in rehab and Waterfall hopes he can convince the judge to go easy.

Rip Torn Busted for Allegedly Breaking Into Bank

Rip Torn was arrested Friday night for allegedly breaking into a bank while drunk and armed with a loaded revolver.

Rip Torn

State police responded to an alarm at the Litchfield Bancorp building in Salisbury, CT at 9:40 PM last night. Police say they found Torn "with a loaded revolver" and he was "highly intoxicated."

Law enforcement sources tell us Torn gained access through a broken window, which they believe Torn broke himself.

Torn was taken to the Troop B barracks in North Canaan and is being held on $100,000 bond.

Cops say Torn was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.

According to the Register Citizen, he is scheduled to appear in court on February 1.

Rip has had previous alcohol-related arrests -- one of which yielded the greatest mug shot in the history of mankind.

Javaris Crittenton Pleads Guilty

Just hours after getting charged with two misdemeanors, Washington Wizards reserve guard Javaris Crittenton struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

Javaris Crittenton: Click to watch
Crittenton pled guilty to one misdemeanor in exchange for dropping the other.

Javaris was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and received a $1,000 fine.

A rep for the Wizards released this statement: "The charges filed today against Javaris Crittenton and his subsequent plea represent another disappointing development in what has already been a long and frustrating process for the team, the NBA and, most importantly, our fans. Javaris clearly used very bad judgment in this situation and will now face the consequences of his actions."

Victoria Principal Gets Legal Apology From Maid

Victoria Principal has settled a lawsuit with her former maid -- a suit alleging V.P. was a gun-wielding boss -- but there's no doubt Victoria came out on top.

Victoria Principal

The maid, Maribel Banegas, issued a formal letter of apology to Victoria - in other words, she waived the white flag. The letter is contained in settlement documents obtained by TMZ.

Banegas claimed Victoria flew into a rage at her Malibu home, fired the maid and then pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Victoria countersued, claiming the maid was a lunatic, slamming doors, hurting her dog and demanding money. Victoria says she pulled the gun and cocked it out of fear.

In the letter of apology, attached to the settlement, Banegas says, "I can now understand why you felt that I was threatening to you, which, in turn, led you to defend yourself."

The maid goes on, apologizing for "any unintentional injury to your little dog, Mei-ling."

The terms of the settlement are confidential.

Lakers Refuse to Fold on Card Game Policy

The Los Angeles Lakers refuse to let one gun-toting moron ruin their in-flight gambling time -- the team has made it clear they will not ban card games in the wake of the Gilbert Arenas incident.

After the New Jersey Nets decided to put the kibosh on all in-flight games of chance -- including cards, dominoes and dice games -- a rep for the Los Angeles Lakers told us they will not be following suit.

The Lakers rep claims, "We feel that players have had card games on flights for decades and that if you have people who are responsible and handle themselves appropriately (which we feel our players do) then the card games can be a fun and healthy release for them."

Also, the Lakers have won 15 championships since 1946 -- and have had zero armed confrontations in their locker room ... so, if it ain't broke ...

Arenas Pleads Guilty to Felony Gun Charge

Arenas -- who was in court today in Washington, D.C. in connection with the locker room standoff he had with teammate Javaris Crittenton in late December-- has to turn in his passport and is no longer allowed to possess any firearms.

According to the U.S. Attorney, it all started during a chartered flight on December 19, when Arenas and a fellow teammate became "involved in a verbal exchange following a card game." During the spat, Arenas -- who claims it was just a joke -- and the teammate made "mutual threats to shoot one another."

Gilbert Arenas Wants to Cop a Plea

Washington Wizards player Gilbert Arenas and the U.S. Attorney are negotiating a plea bargain ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Our sources say Arenas' lawyer and prosecutors are discussing a plea in which Arenas would cop to misdemeanor gun charges. We're told a deal hasn't been struck yet, but it could come as early as today.

Sources say the filing of charges would coincide with the plea, so it would all go down quickly. We do not know what they are discussing with respect to a sentence ... the prosecutor would recommend a sentence but ultimately it's the judge's decision.

Arenas is under investigation for felony gun charges for the locker room incident last month.

As for what a plea would do to Arenas' status as a member of the Washington Wizards, we're told G.M. Ernie Grunfeld and Arenas were text messaging each other shortly after the incident. In one of the text messages, Grunfeld wrote that Arenas had violated his NBA contract which prohibits players from possessing a firearm in a team or league facility. As a result Grunfeld texted the team had a right to void his contract ... worth $111 million.

Raiders Star in Shotgun Purchasing Formation

TMZ has obtained a photo of Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden purchasing multiple firearms at a gun shop in Arkansas this week -- but fear not, his agent says it's all 100% legit.

Raiders Star in Shotgun Purchasing Formation
McFadden, who played ball at the University of Arkansas, rolled into a Little Rock gun shop on Wednesday and purchased at least two firearms -- one of which is a shotgun -- along with camouflage gear and hunting supplies.

We spoke with McFadden's agent, who told us Darren is an "avid hunter and responsible gun collector." The agent added, "Darren holds a gun license and is legally permitted to buy guns in the state of Arkansas. Darren has also taken gun safety classes."

As far as we know, he doesn't play Bourré.

Gilbert Arenas Suspended Indefinitely

Gilbert ArenasThe NBA has suspended Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas indefinitely.

In a statement, NBA commissioner David Stern said:

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game ... Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."

Arenas is under investigation for bringing guns to the Verizon Center (where the Wizards play) and allegedly getting into a standoff with teammate Javaris Crittenton.

BTW -- Today is Gilbert's 28th birthday. Happy birthday!

Gilbert Arenas -- Not Licensed to Pack Heat

Gilbert ArenasNBA star Gilbert Arenas didn't have a license to possess the guns he stored in his locker in D.C.... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told there were four guns in Arenas' locker that were turned over to police, including a gold-plated Desert Eagle -- a gigantic handgun.

Arenas could be charged for "CPWL"-- carrying a pistol without a license.

As we previously reported, Arenas could also face assault charges stemming from the alleged gun-toting standoff with a teammate on Xmas Eve.

D.C. cops plan to bring in Washington Wizards coach Flip Saunders today for questioning. GM Ernie Grunfeld will be brought in later this week.
